In an interview conducted by Carolina Accioly Machado Farah ’28, High School Math Teacher Lorenzo Di Nozzi shared insights into his first year at [TASIS](https://edelweiss-panorama.ch/tasis-the-american-school-in-switzerland/). Since joining the faculty in 2024, Di Nozzi has taught Honors Mathematics 1, Mathematics 2 Extended, and Mathematics 3 Core, working with students across a range of mathematical levels. Beyond the classroom, he serves as a dorm parent, helping to maintain a safe, supportive, and family-like atmosphere for boarding students. He is also a faculty leader for the Global Service Program in the Intergenerational Program, taking a group of students on monthly visits to a local retirement home near campus, where they foster meaningful connections and empathy through singing and playing games. Di Nozzi holds a degree in Aerospace Engineering, which instilled in him a deep fascination with complex physical systems and taught him to approach real-world technical problems with precision and logic. Before transitioning into education, he worked as a sales engineer for an aerospace company, and his technical background inspired his move into teaching. His teaching philosophy is rooted in passion. He believes that sparking curiosity and enthusiasm in students leads to deeper and longer-lasting learning. Even though math can sometimes be scary or intimidating, his goal is to help students understand how thrilling logic, discovery, and creative problem solving can be. When he manages to inspire this enthusiasm, engagement skyrockets, challenging concepts become clearer, and the class has more fun together.

What Di Nozzi likes most about teaching at TASIS is the people. He considers it a privilege to be surrounded by talented and open-minded students from all over the world and to work alongside dedicated and supportive teachers. He also finds the location incredible, with its beautiful lake and mountains providing inspiration for learning and personal growth. For this school year, his goal is to keep improving his technical skills, believing that learning is a never-ending process not just for students but also for teachers. He tries to explore new strategies and technologies to make sometimes abstract concepts more accessible and exciting for students. Recognizing that math is often a challenging and intimidating subject, Di Nozzi prioritizes making his classroom a safe and judgment-free space where everyone is welcome to make mistakes. He breaks down complex problems into smaller, manageable steps. If he could teach his students one lesson unrelated to mathematics, it would be to embrace curiosity and never be afraid of making mistakes. Whether facing a complex calculus problem, trying a new sport, or climbing a mountain, growth happens when one steps outside the comfort zone and treats each challenge as a learning opportunity. Outside teaching, he is passionate about skiing and snowboarding and spending time with his family at their apartment in the Alps.
