Choosing a boarding school raises practical questions for families, and Collège du Léman (CDL) addresses them through its residential programme near Geneva. Boarding life follows a steady rhythm: breakfast, lessons, then afternoon activities or Study Hall, with weekends offering excursions around Lake Léman and the Alps. Students share rooms in residential villas rather than dormitory blocks, with roommates matched by age, gender and interests, and girls and boys housed separately. Homesickness is treated as normal, especially in the first weeks, and House Parents—dedicated to boarding rather than teaching—provide everyday care alongside tutors who monitor academic and extracurricular progress. Parents receive both academic and wellbeing reporting. Academically, CDL offers English, French and bilingual pathways, with five High School diploma options: the IB Diploma, IB Career-related Programme, American High School Diploma, French Baccalaureate and Swiss Maturité. English as an Additional Language support is available, and students struggling in a subject can access private lessons coordinated with schoolteachers. Independence is age-appropriate: routines and boundaries exist, but older students gain greater freedom, with campus leave managed under clear safeguarding rules. After school, students choose from sport, music, clubs or simply time with friends; weekends bring campus activities, trips and mountain excursions, while elite athletes may train with local clubs and adjust academic schedules accordingly. Meals are provided daily with vegetarian, vegan and dietary options, and student feedback shapes menus. Geneva is a short train ride away, offering international city life alongside mountain access. Medical care is available 24/7, with a boarding counsellor and attentive House Parents supporting wellbeing. University advising includes individual meetings, workshops and fairs, while boarding itself builds self-organisation and resilience. There is no single profile for a successful boarder—openness to communal living and new experiences matters most, and visiting campus is the best way to judge fit.
