One year since its launch, the House System at [Collège Champittet](https://edelweiss-panorama.ch/champittet-college/) has already become a beloved part of school life. The initiative was created to strengthen connections across the school community. Every student from Preschool to Grade 9 belongs to one of four Houses: Wolves, Bears, Eagles and Lynxes. By bringing together children of different ages, the House System gives students an opportunity to form friendships outside of their own class and year group.

Belonging to a House helps children build a sense of shared identity and connection within the school community. As they participate together in challenges, activities and events throughout the year, they reinforce ties across year groups and discover the value of mutual support. The structure ensures that students of all ages interact regularly, creating a cohesive environment where younger pupils feel welcomed and older pupils gain a broader perspective of the school community.

The House System also gives older students a chance to take on leadership roles and support their younger peers. Each House relies on two Captains and a Mentor: students in Grades 8 and 9 who help to organise activities, motivate their teammates and act as positive role models. In addition, the Buddy System nurtures relationships across grades by pairing older and younger students, so new students can settle in and feel supported throughout the year. Through these structures, younger children benefit from the encouragement and guidance of their older peers, while older students develop leadership, responsibility and communication skills through real experience.

The House System fosters teamwork through friendly competition, allowing every child to shine. Creativity, kindness, effort and resilience are valued just as much as points, and each team player can see how their contribution helps add to the accomplishments of the whole House. By engaging in a variety of House activities beyond the classroom, students can also discover their own strengths and talents.

Ultimately, the House System serves to help every child find their place within the Champittet community. It reminds students that they are all part of something bigger than themselves and that their contributions matter. The emphasis on mutual support and shared identity ensures that the programme is not merely about competition but about building a supportive network that spans the entire school.

As the House System enters its second year, its continued success demonstrates the value of initiatives that prioritise connection and mentorship. The programme aligns with the school’s commitment to holistic education, where academic development is complemented by social and emotional growth. By providing structured opportunities for leadership and collaboration, Collège Champittet nurtures well-rounded individuals who are prepared to contribute positively to their communities.

The House System has quickly become an integral part of the school’s culture, reinforcing the importance of belonging and teamwork. It offers a model for how schools can create meaningful connections across age groups, ensuring that every student feels valued and supported.
