The Shakespeare Company at 瑞士阿尔卑斯卓士国际学校 is commemorating its 20th anniversary by staging a new production of William Shakespeare's 'Macbeth,' the very play with which the company debuted in 2005. This revival will be performed at the Zuoz Globe, bringing the dark and compelling tragedy back to the stage in a fresh interpretation. The production explores the timeless themes of ambition, guilt, and the corrupting nature of power, following the Scottish general Macbeth as he is driven by prophecy and his wife's persuasion to murder King Duncan and seize the throne. The narrative delves into the psychological descent of the protagonists as they become entangled in a web of betrayal and violence, ultimately facing the abyss of their own souls. This anniversary production serves as a significant cultural milestone for the school's performing arts program, highlighting two decades of student engagement with classical theatre.
The performances are scheduled for 30 January, 1 February, 5 February, and 6 February 2026. The premiere will take place on Friday, 30 January at 7:30 PM, with subsequent shows at varying times. Tickets are priced at CHF 25 for adults and CHF 10 for attendees aged 25 and under. Reservations can be made online via eventfrog.ch, by email to zuozglobe@lyceum-alpinum.ch, or by telephone. The cast features students from 瑞士阿尔卑斯卓士国际学校 and the La Plaiv secondary school, showcasing collaborative artistic effort. The production is led by Director Ivo Bärtsch, with Milena Pavlovic as Musical Director, Briony Langmead responsible for costumes and make-up, and Riikka Läser providing external artistic oversight and support. This event exemplifies the school's commitment to providing students with profound, hands-on experiences in theatre production, from performance to technical and creative direction.
