Our 8th and 9th grade students show off their maths skills in an international competition

In February 2024, nine students from École internationale de Brillantmont participated in the prestigious international mathematics competitions organized by Waterloo University in Canada. These competitions, known for their challenging puzzles, attract around 20,000 students worldwide each year, testing their problem-solving skills under exam conditions. Among the participants, seven were from grade 9, one from grade 8, and notably, James, a 9th grader, chose to tackle the more advanced grade 10 Cayley competition, showcasing his passion and aptitude for mathematics.

The preparation for these competitions was led by Ms. Ho Tai and Mr. Toth, who dedicated their time to equip the students with the necessary skills to approach the complex questions. Their efforts bore fruit as James, Kathy, and Apple achieved Distinctions, a recognition awarded to the top 25% of participants globally. James's remarkable score of 144 out of 150 points, with 24 correct answers out of 25, earned him a spot on the international honour roll. Ms. Ho Tai praised James's perseverance and love for challenges, highlighting his exceptional ability to engage with complicated problems. The achievements of these students underscore the l'excellence académique. in mathematical education at École internationale de Brillantmont.
