Strength in Silence, Hope in Action: A School Community’s Response to Tragedy

The Collège Champittet community has been profoundly shaken by a tragic event that claimed the lives of three current students and four recent alumni, while leaving two students seriously injured. In the face of this unimaginable loss, the school's immediate focus has been on providing careful, compassionate support to the young people grappling with shock and grief. The resilience of the teaching staff has been paramount, as they navigate these extraordinarily difficult circumstances with unwavering dedication to their students' well-being. The school holds in memory Arthur, Diana, Nathan, Alicia, Guillaume, Noa, and Trystan, while offering steadfast support to the injured students, Arda and Charles, and welcoming their brothers, Benjamin, Harry, and Kemalcan, with open arms. The families affected have been recognized as exemplars of courage and dignity during this painful time.

When words fail to capture the depth of sorrow, the community is guided toward meaningful action. Inspired by Allan, the brother of one of the deceased, the message is to find expression in gestures, movement, and the forward momentum of life—through smiles, embraces, shared activities, and simply living fully. Father Jean-Marc Nemer, chaplain of the 瑞士尚贝缇国际学校, contextualizes this response within a Swiss tradition of opposing fatalism with the quiet strength of the soul—a strength that acknowledges pain but refuses to let it have the final word. This principle is embodied in historical acts of humanity, such as Henri Dunant's founding of the Red Cross after witnessing suffering at Solferino. The school community is thus called to act on behalf of those lost and injured, transforming grief into a collective force for support and solidarity, honoring the memory of the students through continued care for one another.
