Beyond the Classroom: How Student Expeditions Build Global Citizens at Collège Champittet

During the February break, students from Collège Champittet embarked on transformative journeys that extended learning far beyond traditional classroom walls. These carefully curated trips were designed to align with the school's educational ethos, particularly its "Year of Compassion" theme, by offering immersive experiences in service, cultural exchange, and adventure. The expeditions provided hands-on opportunities for students to develop empathy, resilience, and a broader worldview through direct engagement with diverse communities and environments. From fundraising for meaningful projects to navigating new cultures, these travels served as powerful extensions of the school's commitment to holistic education, preparing students to become thoughtful and engaged global citizens.

The Tanzania expedition for students aged 13 and above placed humanitarian work at its core. Participants first undertook individual fundraising initiatives before traveling to engage in tangible community projects, including constructing educational facilities for the Seeway Tanzania girls' dormitory. Beyond service, the trip offered ecological and cultural immersion through a safari in Tarangire National Park and a visit to a Fair Trade coffee plantation. Meanwhile, boarding students explored Japan's dynamic contrast between Tokyo's urban energy and Hokkaido's serene winter landscapes, experiencing cultural traditions and world-class skiing. Closer to home, another group of boarders enjoyed the Alpine splendour of Zermatt, honing their skiing skills against the backdrop of the Matterhorn. Each journey concluded with reflective components, encouraging students to internalize their experiences and consider how these lessons apply to their academic and personal futures.
