From March 19 to 26, the Aula Felsenegg on the picturesque campus of Institut Montana Zugerberg was transformed into a vibrant gallery for the annual IB Visual Arts Exhibition. This signature event served as a powerful platform to celebrate the creative achievements and profound artistic development of the school's Diploma Programme students. This year, the spotlight shone brightly on two exceptionally talented individuals, Zofia and Gleb, whose distinct bodies of work captivated visitors and demonstrated the program's success in fostering unique artistic voices. Their curated collections were not merely displays of technical skill but represented the culmination of a rigorous journey of exploration, conceptual thinking, and personal growth. The exhibition underscored the school's commitment to providing an environment where artistic talent is not only discovered but meticulously nurtured, allowing students to translate their visions into compelling visual statements that resonate with a wider audience.
The exhibition powerfully highlighted two divergent yet equally impressive artistic paths. Gleb, a nineteen-year-old student, embarked on his artistic journey just three years ago as a complete newbie. Under the guidance of the school's Visual Arts program, he developed a striking and distinctive style. His work, which includes eight remarkable pieces, oscillates between the deeply unsettling and the playfully cartoonish. A standout sculpture ingeniously merges a mechanical engine part with a human heart, a concept inspired by artists like H.R. Giger that aims to surprise the audience and draw parallels between organic and mechanical systems. In contrast, seventeen-year-old Zofia's work seamlessly blends art with architecture. She creates immersive environments inspired by Antoni Gaudí’s organic structures, exploring space, form, and light. A key innovation in her work is the integration of crocheted elements into architectural models, demonstrating how soft materials can manipulate light and redefine structural perception. Her labyrinthine, repetitive designs invite viewers on a journey of discovery. While Gleb plans to study economics while keeping art integral to his life, Zofia aims to pursue architecture in the UK, focusing on sustainable and innovative eco-friendly designs.
