At Collège Champittet, the autumn season transforms into an immersive educational experience for preschool and primary students. The school recently hosted a vibrant Autumn Party on October 29th, specifically designed for students from preschool through Grade 4. This carefully orchestrated event blended seasonal enjoyment with valuable learning opportunities, creating memorable experiences that extend beyond traditional classroom boundaries. The celebration featured autumnal snacks and a series of engaging activities that promoted both individual participation and team collaboration.
The festivities began with an intriguing pumpkin weight estimation activity, where each student drew a card predicting the pumpkin's weight. The actual weight of 11 kilograms provided a practical lesson in measurement and estimation. Students then organized into their House teams—Wolves, Lynx, Bears, and Eagles—to participate in an autumnal treasure hunt. This activity required students to collect specific seasonal items corresponding to their House: acorns for Wolves, pumpkins for Lynx, chestnuts for Bears, and pinecones for Eagles. The treasure hunt not only encouraged outdoor exploration but also reinforced teamwork and House identity among the young learners.
Adding to the excitement, the Autumn Party included a lively game of musical statues, where students danced to music and froze when it stopped. This classic game developed listening skills, physical coordination, and self-control in a fun, engaging environment. Through these carefully planned activities, Collège Champittet demonstrated how seasonal celebrations can be transformed into meaningful educational experiences that support holistic student development.
Beyond the campus celebrations, Collège Champittet extended the autumn learning experience through carefully planned nature outings for Grade 1 students. These excursions provided hands-on opportunities to observe and appreciate seasonal changes in natural environments. The first outing took students to nearby Chalet-à-Gobet, where they explored the forest and observed the dramatic transformation of autumn colors. This immersive experience allowed students to develop their observation skills while appreciating the natural landscape's beauty during this transitional season.
A separate excursion to peaceful Lake Sauvabelin offered another perspective on autumn's arrival. Here, students actively searched for the first signs of seasonal change in the environment, from falling leaves to changing wildlife patterns. These excursions served as living classrooms where theoretical knowledge about seasons and nature could be observed firsthand. The outdoor experiences aligned with the school's educational philosophy of connecting classroom learning with real-world experiences, fostering environmental awareness and scientific curiosity among young learners.
The combination of on-campus festivities and off-site nature explorations created a comprehensive autumn experience that marked the beginning of an exciting new term. These activities demonstrate how Collège Champittet integrates seasonal themes into its curriculum, providing students with diverse learning opportunities that develop both academic skills and personal growth. The autumn celebrations successfully balanced educational objectives with joyful experiences, creating lasting memories while supporting the school's commitment to holistic education.
