Mount Kilimanjaro Trek Raises Funds for Starehe and Aiglon Scholarship Programs

In a powerful demonstration of commitment to educational access and partnership, a team from Aiglon College is preparing for a significant philanthropic endeavor. From February 6th to 12th, 2026, two current staff members and an alumnus will undertake a demanding five-day trek to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. This initiative is spearheaded by alumnus Kanyi Maina and aims to raise KES 5 million (approximately CHF 30,000). The funds are designated to support two vital causes: the Starehe Boys' and Girls' Centre Endowment Fund and the Aiglon Scholarship Programme. The trek symbolically celebrates 27 years of a transformative partnership between Aiglon and Starehe, an alliance that has consistently focused on creating life-changing opportunities for talented students from diverse backgrounds. This physical challenge underscores the enduring values of resilience, service, and global citizenship that are central to the educational philosophy at Aiglon College.

The fundraising target has a precise and impactful objective: to establish five fully-endowed scholarships. This model of endowment ensures sustainable, long-term support, guaranteeing that financial assistance for deserving students is available for generations to come. The dual focus of the campaign—supporting both the Starehe Centres in Kenya and Aiglon's own scholarship efforts—highlights a holistic approach to educational philanthropy. It recognizes that empowering students requires support at multiple stages of their academic journey. The participation of Aiglon's community members, from alumnus to staff, in such a physically arduous challenge speaks volumes about the institution's collective dedication to its values. It transforms the abstract concept of charitable giving into a tangible, shared mission, inspiring broader community engagement and support. This endeavor serves as a compelling case study in how educational institutions can leverage their unique community spirit and global networks to address critical issues of access and equity in education worldwide.
