Creative tech: Champittet students showcase their AI-powered music projects at STEAM Fair

In April, students from Collège Champittet showcased their innovative projects at the annual STEAM Fair, themed 'Designing musical solutions with AI' by MIT. Over four months, primary and secondary students engaged in brainstorming, research, and teamwork to explore the intersection of AI and music. Primary students focused on historical music periods, while secondary students selected contemporary artists, aiming to enhance musical performance through STEAM skills. Their projects ranged from eco-friendly instrument designs to AI-composed music, demonstrating a blend of creativity and technology.

The STEAM Fair, held on 10 and 12 April, was a platform for students to present their musical and artistic innovations. Teams created immersive booths, like a simulated nightclub for Daft Punk and an Irish bar for U2, showcasing instruments made from recycled materials, AI-remixed songs, and sustainable stage ideas. Student reflections highlighted the learning journey, with Giulia appreciating the potential of simple materials and teamwork, and Clara noting the irreplaceable emotional depth of human-composed music. The event concluded with awards for Class 6C (Haydn) and Class 10C (U2), celebrating their outstanding contributions to the fair.
