From Foundation Year to Swiss Gap – Meet Elizaveta

Elizaveta, a graduate from Russia, began her educational journey in 2015 by joining the Foundation Year at Surval. She arrived with curiosity, courage, and a bright spirit, ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities ahead. Her initial years were not without difficulty; as the youngest student, she struggled significantly with subjects like Maths and Science. However, the nurturing and supportive environment of the school played a pivotal role in her development. Surrounded by dedicated teachers and supportive peers from all grades, Elizaveta received the individual care and attention necessary to thrive. This personalized support was especially crucial as she started without any knowledge of English, yet she quickly grew in confidence and mastered the language. Her journey was about much more than academics; it was a holistic experience encompassing life lessons, family, friendship, and the pursuit of dreams. Elizaveta’s perseverance and hard work culminated in her graduation during the challenging Covid period in 2020, a testament to her resilience and the school’s commitment to each student’s success. She reflects that this period taught her that 'hard work always pays off,' and she emerged with the conviction that she can achieve anything she sets her mind to. The foundation provided during these formative years equipped her with not only academic skills but also the confidence and values to navigate future challenges.

Following her graduation, Elizaveta felt a strong pull to return, drawn by the enduring friendships, the love of learning, and the spirit of adventure she had found. In 2021, she enrolled in the Swiss Gap Year programme, a unique offering that serves as a meaningful bridge between secondary school and university. This programme provided her with the space to further explore her interests, build greater independence, and reflect deeply on her future path. Her favourite memories from her time at the school are centered on her French classes, which she describes as her 'love, freedom, and best experience.' She holds immense gratitude for her teachers, Mrs. Spigarelli and Mrs. Hily, whose influence was profound. Today, Elizaveta shines as an actress in Moscow, having graduated from the Mihail Schepkin Higher Theatre School. She acts in both theatre and films, embodying the belief that the main secrets to success are to work diligently and to believe in oneself—principles nurtured during her time at Surval. She carries with her the lessons, memories, and values discovered there, emphasizing that life's best things are often the smallest and that one should truly value their unique journey rather than focusing solely on results. Her story beautifully illustrates the transformative power of an education that prioritizes individual growth, resilience, and a global perspective, ensuring students step into their futures with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
