Zuoz Globe Plays: Antigone

The Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz is set to host a compelling production of Antigone, presented by the English Theatre Company. This classical tragedy, exploring the timeless conflict between divine and human law, as well as individual morality versus state authority, will be performed at the Zuoz Globe on 21, 23, and 24 February 2025. The play tells the story of Antigone, who defies her uncle, King Creon, and faces dire consequences for her actions. This production marks a significant milestone for student Taisia, who, after three years of contributing her acting talents to the company, steps into the role of director for the first time. Her adaptation, inspired by Sophocles and Jean Anouilh, promises to delve deep into the political and psychological dimensions of the characters.

Under Taisia's direction, the production benefits from a talented team including Ivo Bärtsch and Stephen Rix providing dramaturgical assistance, Marc Navarro in musical direction, and Briony Langmead handling both costume design and make-up. The English Theatre Company, known for its focus on contemporary playwrights from the English-speaking world, takes a bold step into classical theatre with this production. Tickets are priced at CHF 25 for adults and CHF 10 for those under 25, with free choice of seats. Reservations can be made online, via email, or by phone. This event not only showcases the artistic prowess of the students at Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz but also highlights the school's commitment to fostering creativity and critical thinking through the arts.
