Service Learning Student Reflections – Romania

The recent service learning trip to Romania organized by Edelweiss Panorama International (EPI) was a transformative experience for all participants. Students from Rosey and other institutions embarked on this journey with the primary goal of assisting the organization Casă Dragă Casă in building homes for those in need. However, the trip evolved into much more than just a construction project. It became a profound learning experience, where students not only contributed to the community but also gained invaluable life lessons. The collaboration between students from different backgrounds, including those from Rosey, highlighted the importance of teamwork and cultural exchange. The image from the trip, available at https://www.rosey.ch/wp-content/uploads/Rosey-News-Cl-2-Romania-1.jpg, captures the spirit of unity and dedication that defined the experience.

Beyond the physical labor of building houses, the students engaged in reflective discussions about the impact of their work on the local community and on their personal growth. Many expressed how the trip challenged their perceptions and expanded their understanding of global citizenship. The involvement of students from Rosey and other schools underscored the role of education in fostering empathy and social responsibility. The trip also served as a reminder of the power of service learning to bridge gaps between diverse groups and to inspire a commitment to making a difference. The experience in Romania was a testament to the values that EPI and Rosey strive to instill in their students: compassion, resilience, and a deep-seated belief in the potential of young people to contribute positively to the world.
